Fun Future Events! Come and Join Us

As part of our celebrations for Fair Trade Fortnight and National Spring Clean Week we are holding 3 events:

1. Bunting Party!

Come and join us from 1.30pm onwards on Monday 14th March, and help decorate bunting. As part of Fair Trade Fortnight we are trying to be part of the longest line of bunting ever! the bunting will be made of cotton and we will be looking in class at the prices paid to farmers and whether this is fair.

2. Big Spring Clean!

Please come and join us on Tuesday, 15th March to help tidy the school and village. We will also be planting. Please bring gardening tools and gloves. we will be starting at 9.00am and finish at 12.00pm. There  be lots of Fairtrade tea and biscuits.

3. Eco Extravaganza!On the morning of Wednesday 16th of March we will be celebrating and sharing evrything that we have done and hope to do to help us become more environmetally friendly! We will be starting at 10.15am in the P4-7 classroom.

Minutes of Eco Meeting

 

 

 

Miss Bate, Curtis, Ruaridh, Isla, Ewan, Chloe, Sam, Alex

 

 

 

  1. The soup was delicious. We will grow potatoes next year. They were our best crop. We will also try to grow our leeks. We only made a few pounds profit so next year we will charge more. Thank you to Mrs McGhie and Zack’s mum for helping us.

 

2.  We must check that the bird feeders are full. Alex and Curtis to do that.

 

3.  The free fruit bushes have arrived from British Gas. We will ask John to help us plant them.

 

4.  Ewan to help John sweep the leaves.

 

5.  The fair trade orders have arrived. It was much better to send the catalogues out early. The fair-trade group will sort out the orders. We will send the catalogues out next year.

  1. We posted our –eco-code and litter policy in every room in the school, notice boards and the village hall.
  2. We are litter picking nearly every day and we take it in turns. We do not need a rota as we forget to look at it.
  3. The energy monitors are doing a good job and the blind people are as well.
  4. Gregor and Gregor M renewed the Eco Blog with Mr Quigley. They have put photographs on, minutes and future events. They have also put on our code and litter policy.
  5. Mrs Urquhartis sending letters out to some parents by e-mail.
  6. We need to check that the paper we used is recycled and the paper towels too. Gregor to ask Maggie.
  7. Everybody has agreed to use both sides of paper before it is in the recycling bin.
  8. Mrs Urquhartto photocopy on both sides.

Minutes of Eco-committee

  1. The week improving our school grounds was great fun. We know what we want. Miss Bate has sent off all our work to the Playground Partnership. Caitlin and Ian put it on a disc and Mr Quigley helped us.

 

 

2.  We need to get a letter out asking people to water the vegetables over the holidays. Gregor to do the letter. We need to ask Fraser’s dad to fix the water butt.

 

 

3.  We sold herbs and the eco-bags at the summer fair. We have very few bags left. Miss Bate to find out about the cost of buying more

 

 

4.  The courgettes are not doing well. Next time we will start them off in the greenhouse.

 

 

5.  The tomatoes are not doing well either. Somebody has picked the carrots. We need to ask who it was.

 

 

6.  We have also planted the raspberries that Mrs Wells gave us.

 

 

7.  The compost will be ready to use next year.

  1. 1.     The green house is lovely. After talking to everybody in assembly we have decided to grow herbs, peppers, tomatoes and sun flowers in the greenhouse. In the veggie beds we are going to grow carrots, radish, cabbages, broccoli, courgettes and lettuces. In the tyres and used plastic bags we are growing potatoes and rhubarb. We will try strawberries in hanging baskets and in the soil

 

  1. 2.     Ewan’s Mum has brought horse manure which we dug in

 

  1. 3.     The compost needs to be turned regularly. We will ask John the janny to help us.

 

  1. 4.     We could sell our produce at the Summer Fair. We will also sell eco-bags and not give out plastic bags.

 

  1. 5.     We will spend a week working together to see how we could improve the school grounds. We will do an assembly and tell everybody about it. We will try to get money from the lottery and playground partnership.

  1. Lots of parents offered to help to build the greenhouse. They cut the bottles, washed them.

 

 

  1. The eco-committee will take them down to where the greenhouse will be. Louise’s mum and dad and john the janny have concreted posts.

 

  1. What we need to do next is to ask everybody to put the canes through the bottles.

 

  1. John, Miss Bate, Zack’s Granny and mum will then staple them to the wood.

 

  1. We will need tables to put inside the greenhouse. Curtis to ask Mr Quigley if we have any spare tables.

 

  1. When it is built we will need to spend some money on compost.

 

  1. Eco-committee to write a letter to parents asking for seeds and plants.

 

  1. We will use the tops of the bottles as mini greenhouses!!

1.  We decided to count the bottles. We washed them and took off the labels. We have over 1000 and we will ask parents and John the Janny to help us build the greenhouse.

1.   The Big tidy up was a great success. Lots of parents came to help. We had finished by lunchtime.

 

2.   Alex managed to plant grass seed. Need to put tape across to stop everybody running across

 

3.   Alex and Fraser still need to make their leaflet

 

4.   In assembly we told the other children that they have to dig their own beds and look after the plants.

 

5.   We have nearly got enough bottles. We are just 100 short. Ewan will ask his Granny again. Mr Quigley has said that he has got a lot. Next meeting we need to wash the bottles and take off the labels.

 

6.   Miss Bate bought some fatballs for the birds

1.    Leonie and Gregor have spoken to the Ross-shire journal. They will come to take a photo

 

2.    Mrs McClelland has said that she would like to do the fair trade. Miss Bate has registered us.

 

3.   Posters have been made asking for plastic bottles. Ewan says his mum and granny has lots from Fortrose Academy.

 

4.    We will ask parents to help us make veg beds.

 

5.    We need a leaf litter bin. We will ask the janitor if he can make one.
